The
Hearts! are an award winning women's a cappella show chorus, and members of Sweet
Adeline's International. We gather together each week to
share in the art of singing 4-part a cappella harmony under the direction of Marj
Friedmeyer. Our performers come from all walks of life, range in age from teens to
grandmothers, and share one thing in common which is our love for
learning, singing,
and entertaining. The Hearts have a rich and wonderful history of entertaining in
the mid-Missouri area, are a not for profit organization, and enjoy
supporting area schools, arts programs, charities, Young Singers
Foundation, and more. Additionally we delight in the production of an annual
show, year round private and public performances,
singing
telegrams, a yearly regional competition, professional coaching, educational
opportunities, cherished friendships, and just plain having a good time!

We're sure you've heard of the Andrew's Sisters
or the Chordettes and remember their unique sound. What is it that makes them so memorable? The
answer is a specially arranged form of tight harmony, known as
barbershop. Don't think this is your grandpa's singing group
ladies, we've got rhythm and attitude that puts us in a whole new category.
The art form of singing a-cappella in the
barbershop style is characterized by extremely tight four-part
harmony consisting of: Lead, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass.
The challenge is in the tuning of voices to as close to perfect
as is humanly possible. At the same time we strive to sing with synchronicity,
uniform word formation, and matched tonality. Artistic singing in the
barbershop style should exhibit a fullness of sound, a high degree of
vocal skill and a high level of unity and consistency. We can perform as a full
show chorus, a small group, or in quartet form, and sing everything from
Swing to Jazz, Gospel, Traditional, Rock-n-Roll, Sweetheart,
Holiday, Comedic Parody and more. |

You bet! Another important aspect of our barbershop form of entertainment is
presentation. We like to call it the "sizzle!". Things which add to the presentation of our total package are rhythm, balance, mood, choreography, expression, artistic arrangement of
the music, music direction, costumes, scripting, and theatrical
and lyrical interpretation. Our goal is continued artistic growth while
consistently providing audiences with an emotionally satisfying,
energetic, and fun entertainment experience! It's similar to
the excitement you feel when you see a good Broadway musical. |

| We think so! If you enjoy music with an entertainment twist,
a cappella with an energetic attitude, or harmony as an art form, then you might want
